Measuring Tips: Rings

What size are your rings?

Ring sizes are indicated by inner diameter. Rings are made with 3/16" diameter material. All rings have an eyelet, which has an inner diameter of 3/8" and is made with 1/16" diameter material. Drapery panels can be sewn on the eyelet or attached with drapery pins or clips.

3/4" diameter rods are paired with 1 1/4" diameter rings. 1" and 1 1/4" diameter rods are paired with 1 1/2" diameter rings.

How many rings do I need?

A ring is typically placed every 5" or 7" on drapery panels. Functioning panels are typically 1.5x to 2.0x the length of a rod. Stationary panels are often narrower.

A quick rule of thumb is to divide the rod length by 4. This assumes 1.5x fabric "fullness" with a ring every 6". For example, a 100" rod with functioning drapes may need 25 rings.
